More than two weeks after the intense fire that completely destroyed a hut at an altitude of about 1,500 meters in the Zillertal, the cause of the fire should now be clear.
On April 19, the sirens sounded in Hippach. Around 6 a.m. an alpine hut was on fire. The emergency services quickly arrived on the scene, but were unable to prevent the hut from completely burning out. This was destroyed by flames.
A witness called the owner, who then alerted the emergency services. The fire brigades of Laimach, Schwendau, Ramsau and Zell am Ziller took action. However, the snow-covered road made the journey difficult.
Because now it’s clear
As the fire investigators have now announced, the cause of the fire has probably been clarified: “Based on the investigation into the cause of the fire, it can be assumed that the cause of the fire is a defective battery of an older cordless screwdriver.”
