The US government has imposed a new package of sanctions on supporters of the war against Ukraine. About 300 people and companies are affected, the US Treasury Department announced on Wednesday.
Those affected include companies from Russia, China and other countries accused of helping the Kremlin obtain weapons and military equipment for the war. According to a statement, most companies allegedly helped purchase components that are normally banned. Two of them may have helped obtain materials for ammunition production.
Two companies from EU member states are also affected, namely Belgium and Slovakia. Most of the companies on the sanctions list – about 200 – come directly from Russia, half from the armaments, transport or high-tech sectors.
Freezing of assets
The nature of the sanctions is not unknown: for example, the assets of the affected people in the US and the affected companies are frozen. In addition, US institutions and citizens were banned from doing business with those subject to sanctions. In addition, entry into the US is prohibited.
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen expects the new sanctions “will further disrupt and weaken Russia’s war effort by targeting its military-industrial base and the evasion networks that support it.”
Only recently did the US government decide to provide new military aid to the war-torn country (see video above).
