A serious climbing accident occurred in the “Grazer Bergland” in Mixnitz on Wednesday afternoon. The C17 rescue helicopter had to transport a 28-year-old to the accident hospital (UKH) in Graz.
A team of three climbed the so-called “Red Chimney” on the “Rampenwulst”. During this climb in the upper fifth difficulty level, the 28-year-old “leader” fell through his own fault around 2:30 p.m. His two climbing colleagues were able to stop the “leader’s fall” and take first aid measures.
The rescue helicopter crew was able to rescue the man from the rock face using rope and transport him to hospital with serious injuries. The Hochsteiermark Alpine Police conducted the investigations. There is no negligence on the part of third parties.
