Power plants fail – attack on Crimea, Ukraine cuts off electricity

Date:

Ukraine reportedly attacked a Russian base on the annexed Crimean peninsula. Meanwhile, the war-torn country is struggling with its electricity supply. And: The Ukrainian army says it is withdrawing troops from the village of Uroschaine in the eastern Donzek region.

“Since the enemy destroyed almost everything in Uroschaine, the forces have retreated to other positions,” a Ukrainian military spokesman said. “A decision was made to protect the lives and health of our soldiers who maintained the defense there.”

Ukraine has now lost almost half of its production capacity due to the attacks that Russia has intensified since the spring, resulting in repeated power outages and the country having to buy electricity from the EU on a large scale.

This is how Crimea is being hit by drone attacks:

On Thursday night, two power plants went dark. Now, grid operator Ukrenergo says it has drastically cut back on power supplies. This results in significant restrictions: 11 regions and the capital Kyiv were affected between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. (local time), Ukrenergo said. “A significant electricity shortage in the Ukrainian energy system is the result of eight massive attacks carried out by the enemy since the beginning of the year.”

Ukrainian attack on Russian base in Crimea
The aggressor is not calming down either. According to an insider, Ukraine has attacked a Russian coast guard base on Lake Donuslav in the west of the Crimean peninsula. According to Ukrainian security circles, naval and air drones were used. As a result of the night attack, the base headquarters, an ammunition and equipment depot, an electricity substation, technical facilities and firing positions were damaged and put out of action.
