Industrial accident in Tyrol – elderly woman caught in wood splitter – finger cut off

Horrible workplace accident Thursday morning in the Tyrolean lowlands: A 72-year-old local woman got her hand stuck in a wood splitter in Kirchberg and cut her fingers. The seriously injured woman was flown by helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck.

The devastating accident happened around 10:30 am. The 72-year-old woman was splitting firewood with a hydraulic wood splitter in Kirchberg.

Hand between wood and riving knife
“Her hand became trapped between the wood and the riving knife, causing her fingers to be seriously injured,” police reported. When “Krone” asked, it was said that the pensioner had completely and partially severed one of her fingers.

By helicopter to the clinic
A family member started the rescue chain. After initial treatment on site, the seriously injured person was flown by emergency helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck.
