As for the Euskadi trawl and purse seine fleets, catches have reached 87% and 100% of their quota respectively. The trawl quota for the Euskadi fleet is 180,000 kilos and the purse seine quota is 4.3 million kilos.
Regarding the smallest fleet, of small fishing gear, the quota available to the Biscayan fleet is 3.3 million kilos, of which 21% has been captured. As for the Guipuzcoan fleet, which has a quota of 1.4 million kilos, the catch is 29%.
Even though the average price of the Verdel fishery as a whole has increased slightly compared to the previous year (€1.05/kilo), “this does not compensate for the decline in Verdel catches, which is fundamentally due to the pronounced decline that the small The gear fishery has had a hard time over the past three years,” said the Basque government.
