After hours of feverish searching, there is now a sad certainty in Australia: a passenger who fell overboard is dead – he could only be rescued lifeless from the sea.
On Monday evening (local time), the man fell into the water almost twenty kilometers from Sydney Harbor for reasons that are still unclear, Australian media report, citing police. His body was eventually discovered in the morning.
“Very stressful day”
For more than six hours, numerous emergency services had desperately searched from the air for the missing man with boats and a helicopter. The cruise ship “P&O’s Pacific Adventure” returned to Sydney after a three-day tour to the famous sand island of Moreton on the south-east coast of Queensland. The shipping company spoke of a “very stressful day for the guests and crew”.
Another cruise on the ship that was scheduled to depart in the afternoon has been postponed. The police started an investigation.
