An unusual stroke of luck occurred for an employee of the Vienna General Hospital. In the spring, the employee was surprised when she was suddenly paid around 150,000 euros for her overtime. However, this was a major mistake by the personnel administration.
In total, this involved a payment of 9,901 hours of overtime. However, the woman had only entered 1.41 hours of additional work. According to the city auditor, a recording error in the personnel administration led to the incorrect booking. The joy did not last long and the amount transferred was refunded.
Code number as hourly value
The reason for the error was apparently a confusion. In the case in question, the code for overtime was 9901. Instead of the correctly entered 1.41 hours, the code was calculated as an hourly value. The city of RH advised the health association and the municipal department 2 (Personnel Department) to improve internal control mechanisms.
It was recommended to use the principle of double checking, as well as automated alerts in the system and withdrawal limits to prevent unwarranted transfers of this magnitude.
