A 56-year-old Carinthian soldier from the Austrian army contingent in Bosnia fell during a private climbing trip near the town of Travnik on Saturday. He suffered fatal injuries.
“Unfortunately, an immediate rescue operation was negative, we are deeply affected and our thoughts are with the family members,” said Christoph Hofmeister, press officer at the Carinthian Military Command. The body of the Carinthian professional soldier had to be recovered by helicopter.
Comrade was an eyewitness
“Soldiers always travel in pairs in the operational area, even privately, and that was also the case in this case. The comrade who witnessed the fatal crash will of course also receive psychological care!”, Hofmeister said.
The injured soldier will be repatriated to Carinthia by military transport in the coming days.
