After a hard struggle for a ceasefire in the Gaza war, there is apparently movement: Hamas agrees to a proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, according to a statement from the Palestinian organization.
The proposal was put forward by mediators Egypt and Qatar. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyyah told Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel that they accepted the terms of a ceasefire with Israel, the terror group said.
The statement does not indicate exactly what conditions apply to the ceasefire. It is also unclear what Israel’s position is on this.
The Israeli army had earlier begun the evacuation of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. An Israeli military offensive is expected there.
