Arrested in Salzburg – gang of burglars caused damage worth 560,000 euros

Date:

The damage is attributed to 60,000 euros to a gang that has mainly committed residential and commercial burglaries since May last year. At least 117 crimes have been committed in Lower Austria, Salzburg and Styria, the state police headquarters in St. Pölten reported on Tuesday. Four suspects are in custody.

In this country, 54 completed and 27 attempted residential burglaries, ten residential burglaries and four commercial burglaries (with cracked safes) and seven such attempts are said to be attributed to the group, which was also active in Germany. Four Albanian citizens between the ages of 28 and 37 are suspected of this and some have confessed, according to investigators. Five compatriots still have to be investigated. The family clan operated from Naples.

Victims were mainly present
According to police, in the majority of home burglaries, the victims were present and asleep. However, this circumstance did not deter the suspect. The gang was investigated by the state criminal investigation agencies of Lower Austria and Salzburg.

A car with Italian license plate that was left in a vineyard in Spitz an der Donau (Krems district) in mid-August 2023 led to the neighboring country. A vehicle stolen in Furth near Göttweig was recovered near the car’s registration address. The case was submitted to the Leoben public prosecutor’s office.

DNA traces evaluated
Examination of DNA traces identified a 37-year-old as the suspected main perpetrator and a 35-year-old. The handcuffs for the duo and two other Albanians clicked on the night of January 27 in Zell am See. The quartet was transferred to Leoben prison.
