Last Tuesday, the Council of the Basque Government approved the decree that regulates, within its territorial scope, a series of measures to improve the functioning of the food chain in Euskadi.

As the Basque government reports in a note, the decree states the inspection, control and sanction mechanismswhich will affect the entire food chain in the Basque Autonomous Community, from primary production to points of sale to the final consumer, applying in any case the provisions of the current legislation.

The Executive confirms that the aim is to achieve a new balance in the food chain, by introducing additional measures that alleviate the difficulties faced by a large part of the primary sector, and to, as far as possible, transparency of commercial relations between food chain operators in general.

In the same way, the Basque Government considers it necessary to provide and regulate, within its territorial scope, a series of instruments for the development of the Food Chain Act, such as the “Code of Good Commercial Practices for Food Contracting in Euskadi” and the “Code of Good Commercial Practices for Food Contracting in Euskadi”.
