Trial in Carinthia – Six-year-old abused: “Mom, it hurts so much!”

Date:

“Mom, it hurts so much!” shouted a six-year-old as her mother hit her with nettles. The mother herself admits this – and confesses how her daughter was also abused by her ex-stepfather and grandmother. The little one was sunk into a pond, among other things – without being able to swim!

In her eagerness, Judge Marlene Moshammer forgets to give public prosecutor Doris Wieser the floor for the prosecution – but little by little, during the trial at the Klagenfurt Regional Court, it becomes clear what incredible deeds three Carinthians are accused of: murdered a little girl, their daughter, stepdaughter and step-granddaughter, now only nine years old, have long suffered emotional torment and physical abuse. In a perfidious way. “I was always bad,” the little one will later say to the caregivers. “That’s why they were so mean to me.”

First there is the mother, a 39-year-old blonde, who sits separately from the other two defendants: “Yes, I am guilty,” she confesses. “Unfortunately, I was completely overwhelmed.” She often punished her child, the middle of three, for being ‘difficult’ – even hitting him with nettles. “She screamed and cried: Mom, it hurts so much,” the woman says in a soft voice. “Then I stopped and realized what was happening. She made me do it.”

Child thrown into a pond as punishment
“She” is the ex-mother-in-law, a veteran social worker who modeled the brutal parenting style – even for the son, who gave the annoying stepchild a cold shower and even threw him into the icy pond to punish him. “She was so scared she couldn’t swim,” says the mother. There is also talk of punishment in the basement, hard slaps in the face and hair pulling.

The child is afraid of many things
“She is panicking about any form of confinement,” reports a foster mother. “And every spin makes her panic and can barely calm down.” Who knows how long the child’s ordeal lasted before such fears developed?

The co-suspects try to paint a completely different picture of a normal home. The little one would have “loved her stepfather until death”, just like her step-grandmother, who would have cared for her in an “educationally valuable way” and could not explain that her own son had accused her of child welfare and had also own abuse.

But in court, everyone tells a different story in which they appear as favorable and harmless as possible. It doesn’t seem to matter that it is about the fate of a child who also struggles with the diagnosis of ADHD and the demons from his early years. The procedure was postponed because nine witnesses and an expert were still needed.
