A 22-year-old from Engelhartszell was carrying out welding work on his car in a hall in Brunnenthal (Schärding) in Upper Austria on Monday evening, when the car suddenly started to burn. The fire quickly spread to the entire building; the 22-year-old was injured in the fire and taken to hospital.
During welding, the interior of the car caught fire in the trunk. Shortly afterwards, the entire vehicle burned out and the flames even spread to the machine hall, which was completely engulfed in flames a short time later.
Three fire brigades in action
60 emergency services from three fire brigades, including six respiratory protection teams, fought the fire from the ground and the turntable ladder. Nevertheless, three other cars were destroyed by flames and the hall was also badly affected.
Young man injured
The 22-year-old from Engelhartszell was injured in an unspecified degree in the fire and was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Schärding.
