In the backseat of a moving car on a highway in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, a six-year-old set off fireworks, to the surprise of his mother (39). The car burned down completely.
The child and the 39-year-old mother were taken to a hospital with suspected smoke poisoning, the police in Ludwigsburg announced on Thursday.
According to officials, the incident happened Wednesday on Highway 8 near Stuttgart. According to the investigation so far, the six-year-old apparently lit a firecracker in the backseat and started the fire.
40,000 euros in damage
The mother stopped on the emergency lane and when the police and fire brigade arrived the car was completely ablaze. According to a media report, the fireworks were said to have been Bengalos and sparklers for a children’s birthday party. The police estimate the damage at approximately 40,000 euros.
