A fire broke out in a farm building in the Dietersdorf am Gnasbach district of St. Peter am Ottersbach (Styria) on Thursday evening around 8:30 PM. It is said to contain more than a thousand pigs. The fire brigade is on duty.
A number of fire brigades responded to a large fire in a pigsty between Hofstätten and Dietersdorf am Gnasbach on Thursday. “The stable building is completely on fire,” says press officer Erwin Irzl. There are already 16 fire brigades on site. “Some people are constantly warned. The local water supply is very difficult.”
There are also pigs in the stable. According to the police, there could be more than a thousand. Some of the animals were in the outdoor enclosure next to the stable, some inside. The hundreds of firefighters do everything they can to save the pigs.
“The fire brigade is now fighting the fire and removing the pigs from the danger zone,” says Irzl.
People are currently not at risk. The stable works fully automatically. The operation will last at least until midnight, probably longer.
