Raised in the forest – kidnapped Swiss woman (17) discovered in Spain

Date:

A 17-year-old girl from Switzerland, who had disappeared from the face of the earth for a long time, has now been found by chance in Spain: the neglected appearance of the teenager, who was traveling with his father, made a witness suspicious. He alerted the authorities. It turned out that the kidnapped teenager grew up in a forest, isolated from society.

The girl looked dirty, disheveled and nervous when she was discovered in mid-March by police officers from Coin in southern Spain, Swiss newspaper ‘Blick’ reported. The teenager hid behind a broken down car with a man who later turned out to be her father.

Authorities determined that father was at “high risk” of kidnapping
When the police took the two to determine their identities, it turned out that there was an urgent threat report for the Swiss-born woman. The message stated that her whereabouts were unknown and that there was a “high risk” of abduction by her father. When Spanish prosecutors contacted Swiss authorities, they discovered that the teenager and her sisters had grown up in a forest in Switzerland – completely isolated from civilization and society.

In this article you can see what it looked like in the suspect father’s car:

The father strictly rejected all social institutions and structures and was therefore classified as a danger to his children. The man himself was under the custody of the Swiss authorities, but managed to escape to Spain in a previously unknown manner. He also lived there with his 17-year-old daughter, apparently isolated from the rest of society.

Both parents had psychological problems
According to Swiss authorities, the girl was in a dangerous situation due to her ‘extreme vulnerability’. Like her father, her mother also struggled with psychological problems. The 17-year-old hasn’t seen her in six years.

When the Swiss went to a car repair shop due to a technical problem, the mechanic noticed the girl when she got out of the car. “If she comes out scared, alone and dirty, you have to recognize that,” the observant witness told La Vanguardia.

Young people are now back in Switzerland
The minor was initially taken by Spanish authorities to a child protection center in Málaga. Her health worries her caregivers: they fear that she has lived without medical care for a long time. The 17-year-old was eventually returned to Switzerland in early May. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not want to release further details for data protection reasons.
