Comedy star and ‘main pilgrim’ Hape Kerkeling lends his voice to the lazy cartoon cat in the new ‘Garfield’ film (in cinemas now). In Berlin he spoke at length with the “Krone” about cancel culture, pilgrimages and of course lasagna, the favorite dish of the gluttonous Garfield.
“Kron”: What is your first memory of Garfield?
Also in the Church: I read the cartoons in the newspaper at the time. That was back when there was only one photo in color and the other three photos in black and white, because people had to save money. From 1987 onwards I was allowed to speak with Garfield on the radio tapes. Eleven episodes in total. Yeah, and then there was a very, very long pause. So far the request has been about the big movie, which I also hoped I would be asked about. And thank goodness they did.
