A Ukrainian drone strike briefly caused a fire at the Volgograd oil refinery in southern Russia. The governor of the region, Andrei Bocharov, announced this on Sunday via the Telegram short message service.
“The fire has been extinguished. There were no injuries,” Bocharov wrote. Neither oil producer Lukoil nor the Ukrainian side have commented on the issue yet.
According to the Ministry of Defense in Moscow, the Russian army intercepted six attack drones and two ballistic missiles from Ukraine over Russian territory on Sunday evening. The two Soviet-type Tochka missiles were fired and destroyed over Belgorod Oblast, the ministry said on Telegram.
Three of the drones were intercepted over Bryansk Oblast, two over Lipetsk and one over Volgorod. Bryansk and Belgorod border Ukraine, the other two areas are further inland.
As is usually the case, Ukraine does not comment on the attacks. In recent months, the armed forces have increasingly attacked targets in Russia far from the border.
