Horrible alpine accident Saturday in Tyrol’s Lechtal: A 63-year-old mountaineer slipped on a snowfield and fell about 200 meters over steep terrain. The local man was injured and had to be rescued by helicopter.
The alpine accident took place around noon in the municipality of Steeg. According to the police, the 63-year-old suddenly slipped on a field of old snow during the descent from the so-called Biberkopf (2,599 meters high).
The climber could not prevent the fall
The locals could hold on no longer and fell some 200 meters over steep terrain. He suffered significant injuries. The crew of the emergency medical helicopter rescued the alpinist, who was flown to the hospital in Immenstadt in Bavaria after initial care.
Slipping means life-threatening danger
Even though spring has long arrived in the valley, there is still a lot of snow on the mountains and winter conditions prevail. The mountain rescue service recently warned mainly about snow fields.
