A paraglider pilot in the Tyrolean Zillertal had major bad luck on Sunday. The paraglider lost control and crashed into a forest, where it initially became stuck on a tree. The mountain rescue team arrived – the local man apparently survived the accident unscathed.
The Tyrolean had taken off from the “Melchboden” launch base around noon and apparently wanted to fly to Mayrhofen.
Umbrella suddenly collapsed
For a previously unknown reason, the parachute suddenly folded and the pilot crashed into a forest on Hochschwendberg. The glider apparently became stuck on a broken or rotten tree – and the pilot initially became stuck about two meters above the ground.
Use on steep terrain
It was said that the local man was able to extricate himself from his predicament. The alerted mountain rescuers had to descend approximately 150 meters over steep terrain to reach the pilot.
Ultimately, the local man was found unharmed by emergency services. The rescuers eventually removed the paraglider from the tree. After about two hours the operation was over.
