Two refugees traveled as stowaways, hidden under a carriage – until one ended up on Autobahn 99 in the Ebersberg district of the southern German state of Bavaria. He was slightly injured on Sunday.
A woman driving behind the bus was able to brake and avoid running over the man. Attracted by her honking, the bus stopped shortly afterwards.
A second man then crawled out from under the vehicle and ran to his companion. The two men were asylum seekers from Morocco, police said. According to their own statements, they are 26 years old.
Men taken to hospital
It was initially unclear how long they had spent under the bus and exactly how they held on. But it must have been near the exhaust system, a police spokesperson said. The two were covered in soot. Because the second man also suffered abrasions, both were taken to hospital.
