The Price of Power – That’s how hard it really is for women in politics

Date:

From the green ‘snot nose’ to the cool ‘ice princess’. The same image appears again and again. Women in politics are mocked, trivialized or hated. The “Krone” investigated why hostility towards women is still so prevalent in Austrian politics.

FPÖ-EU leadership candidate Harald Vilimsky has the status of a defendant in criminal proceedings. Apparently that was no obstacle to his candidacy. Reinhold Lopatka was the mastermind during the grand coalition. Christian Kern even compared Lopatka to “a suicide bomber who blows himself up in a phone booth.” He was considered the ‘bad cop’ of the ÖVP team. But his character traits never caught Lopatka’s attention and did not prevent him from becoming the ÖVP’s top candidate. It is different with Lena Schilling.
