Rush on Crete – Greece no longer processes asylum applications

Greece, popular with tourists, is currently fighting with a wave of migration from North Africa. The State therefore no longer wants to accept asylum applications from the region.

More arrivals have recently been registered on the Greek island of Crete. The measure now decided for three months now, said Prime Minister Kyriako’s Mitsotakis in Athens on Wednesday-one day after a burst meeting of an EU delegation with official representatives in Libya.

Minister from Greece, Italy and Malta should have participated in the meeting of EU migration commissioner Magnus Brunner with Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah in Benghazi. However, the meeting was canceled by the authorities in eastern Libya.

The focus was on common challenges in the field of migration and the fight against human smuggling. The conversations are intended to form a basis for in -depth cooperation.
