On Tuesday, bottling hot bitumen for a 40-year-old in Enns (Upper Austria) ended with extremely painful burns. For reasons that are still unclear, the liquid mass flowed onto his pants and into his shoes. After receiving emergency medical treatment, the employee had to be treated at the Linz accident hospital.
The 40-year-old from Sieghartskirchen (Lower Austria) had filled hot bitumen from his tanker at a company in Enns on Tuesday around 1:30 p.m. When he turned off the tanker’s hose at the end of the refueling, he was suddenly doused with liquid bitumen at a temperature of 180 degrees. It is still unclear exactly how the dangerous and very painful accident could have happened.
Six percent burned
Fortunately, the safety pants protected the man from major burns, but bitumen also flowed into his shoes. The 40-year-old suffered second-degree burns to his foot.
Apparently six percent of its body surface is affected. After receiving emergency medical treatment, the employee was taken by ambulance to the accident hospital in Linz.
