Lost, found, saved – and yet died. Despite all efforts, all help came too late for a young fox in Grödig.
An animal drama without a happy ending! There was a young fox walking around in Grödig these days. The four-legged friend could not find his way without his mother and ran around completely scared. A firefighter eventually found the baby fox and was able to capture it. The Austrian Animal Protection Service was contacted as soon as possible. “We immediately saw that the fox was covered in ticks and other parasites,” said animal rescue manager Oswin Mair.
A decision was made in consultation with the responsible hunter. An expert employee of the Salzburg Zoo had to care for and raise the frightened young animal. An ambitious undertaking – with a sad outcome! The baby fox died just a few days later, the zoo said in response to a Krone request.
“We don’t know how long the fox has been roaming around. The longer he is completely alone, the lower his chances of survival,” says Mair. It is also unclear what happened to the mother.
What should you do if you spot a wild animal?
The animal rescue chief urged: “Anyone who sees a wild animal should immediately contact the hunter responsible. After all, he must know what is happening in his territory. . . “
