A German holiday family was shocked on Thursday morning in the Tyrolean town of Ausserfern: while driving on their Pentecost holiday, their caravan suddenly burst into flames on the B179 Fernpass road. Truck drivers helped the Germans with fire extinguishers. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The Germans were on the B179 Fernpasweg towards Reutte on Thursday morning. Shortly before the Reutte-Nord exit, the 55-year-old driver looked in the rear-view mirror and noticed that a fire had broken out near the right rear tire of the caravan.
No chance to put out the fire
“The driver immediately stopped, disconnected the trailer from the car and attempted to extinguish the fire with his own fire extinguisher,” police said. Some truck drivers also arrived with their fire extinguishers. However, the fire could not be controlled, let alone extinguished. The caravan soon went up in flames.
The 55-year-old then quickly retrieved a gas cylinder from the trailer and eventually got to safety together with his three passengers.
Nearly forty emergency services arrived
The Vils and Musau fire brigades responded with seven vehicles and almost 40 members. They could no longer prevent the caravan from burning down completely. Fortunately, no one was injured.
