Pentecost weekend on the Upper Adriatic – and that means that countless party-hungry holidaymakers will once again storm the holiday destinations there. People are preparing for the attack, especially in the seaside resort of Lignano.
90,000 visitors are expected, including an estimated 30,000 Austrians. The municipality of Lignano Sabbiadoro is preparing to combat alcohol surpluses among young holidaymakers, as has been the case in recent years.
Bottle ban and beach closures
Last year there were stricter rules intended to put a stop to partying. These include earlier curfews, watermelon, bottle and glass bans and nighttime beach closures. That would have proven successful, according to the city council. New this year is the ban on swimming trunks and bikinis outside the beach. Campers can no longer park freely along the streets.
From today, Thursday to Monday, serving and selling drinks in glasses and cans is no longer possible, with the exception of table service. Music is prohibited in bars after 1am. As for beach control, several security guards will be deployed and the lifeguard service will be expanded. Access to the beaches is restricted at night.
Police officers from Austria on the scene
German-speaking police officers from South Tyrol and Carinthia will actively support their colleagues on site. Spending the night outside with a tent or sleeping bag is no longer allowed. The police want to strictly ensure that there is no vandalism against public and private property
Lignano expects a greater influx of foreign holidaymakers during the Pentecost weekend than last year. Hotels and campsites are fully booked. Heavy traffic is expected on the highway network in Friuli this coming Pentecost weekend. The motorway company “Autostrade Alto Adriatico” points out possible delays and traffic jams on various parts of the motorway network.
