The person detained for the attack on Slovakia’s Prime Minister has taken part in several police investigations.

Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico underwent further surgery on Friday and his condition following last Wednesday’s attack remains “very serious”, according to a joint statement from the government and the hospital treating the president.

Last Friday’s operation was aimed at the “elimination of necrotic tissue” caused by the injections he received two days ago, according to what the country’s deputy prime minister and the hospital director announced.

“The patient is still conscious, stabilized, but his condition is still very serious,” the hospital director said in the statement collected by the TASR agency.

The Deputy Prime Minister, in turn, added that despite Fico’s condition, “the country is not paralyzed and all processes continue to work.”

Slovakia’s Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok has refused to resign after the attack and has denied possible shortcomings in the security system. He has also defended the officers’ actions amid criticism of their actions.
