Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has reported that Spanish diplomats from the delegations of Pakistan and Qatar will travel to Afghanistan in the coming hours to repatriate the bodies of the three Catalan tourists killed yesterday in an attack in this country . , but also as a woman, also Catalan, who finds herself in a state “critical but aware” after an operation in Kabul, and two other travelers who were unharmed.

Albares explained in an interview with radio station RAC1 that, according to the oral account of the survivors of the event, the attack took place yesterday afternoon in the market area of ​​Bamiyan town, when a man appeared. in an alley and started shooting indiscriminately.

The Foreign Minister did not want to speculate on the exact circumstances of the incident, which has not yet been attributed to any group, but assumed that these types of incidents are “targeted at European citizens.”

“As for the person who is injured, we are a little more in the hands of the doctors to know when this repatriation can take place and under what circumstances, but the goal is obviously very clear: that this happens. as quickly as possible“, added.

Albares, who described what happened as an “atrocity”, recalled that “right now everywhere in Afghanistan there is this risk, just like the risk of kidnapping” and that is why the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its travel warning and after the recapture of Kabul by the Taliban,advises against any form of travel to Afghanistan under any circumstances“.

As for the remaining victims of the attack, local sources told the Afghan news agency Aamaj that there are more three Afghans dead and two foreigners injured, an Australian and a Lithuanianalthough these countries have not confirmed these nationalities for the time being.
