Attentive motorists on the western highway (A1) in Lower Austria were stunned on Sunday morning when a horse suddenly appeared next to the busy road.
The escaped animal was located near the Völlerndorf rest area (St. Pölten district) and was grazing completely relaxed on a grass verge right next to the guard rail. Emergency services immediately arrived on the scene to prevent the horse from entering the road.
Owner has done research
Finally, ASFINAG employees made a hole in an adjacent nature fence. With combined forces, the horse was led through the hole to the field behind and then the gate was closed again. The owner whose horse escaped has now been traced.
