After the heavy storm front of the Whitsun weekend, which moved east over Vorarlberg on Sunday afternoon, it is expected to rain heavily throughout Austria next night and Thursday morning.
According to a forecast from the Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) on Wednesday, most precipitation will concentrate on the Bregenzerwald, the Arlberg region and parts of North and East Tyrol and Salzburg. But heavy rain showers can also occur in the rest of the country.
More flooding possible
Soils in individual regions are already heavily polluted by past rainfall. With the approaching bad weather, the coming amounts of precipitation between 25 and 50 liters per square meter can be associated with local flooding.
More rain showers than thunderstorms
Overall, however, the risk of thunderstorms is not very high, according to ZAMG. In addition to the unstable weather, the low pressure zone is also associated with the supply of colder air from the north.
Thursday will reach up to 23 degrees. It is warmest in the east of the country.
