Netanyahu has claimed that Khan’s decision to issue arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials at the same time he did so for three Hamas leaders is a “complete distortion of reality.”
The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahucriticized this Monday the decision of the Attorney General of the International Criminal Court (ICC)Karim Khan, to apply for arrest warrants against him and his Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, and has accused him of comparing Israeli soldiers to “the monsters” of Hamas.
“On what authority do you dare to compare the monsters of Hamas to the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the most moral army in the world?” the president said in a video message.
Netanyahu has assured that Khan will request the decision arrest warrants against senior Israeli officials and three Hamas leaders (Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh and Mohamed Deif) is a “complete distortion of reality.”
Khan today asked ICC judges for permission to issue arrest warrants against the five for alleged war crimes during the October 7 Hamas attacks and the subsequent Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.
Between the crimes of those holding the two Israeli officials responsible is the use of hunger as a ‘method of war’ against citizens and “intentional murder”while Hamas leaders are held responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Israeli civilians on October 7.
“As Prime Minister of Israel, I reject with disgust the Hague prosecutor’s comparison between democratic Israel and the mass murderers of Hamas,” the president emphasized.
Netanyahu has also accused the institute of anti-Semitism, of which Israel is not a part (like the United States). I would not be obliged to follow his orders.
However, all European Union (EU) countries have ratified the Rome Statute, so if the orders are issued, the Israeli president would not be able to cross European borders – although it is still not clear which governments would comply with the decision.
