The American president has once again aligned himself with Israel and emphasizes that “you cannot compare Israel” with Hamas.
The President of the United States (US), Joe Biden, assured this Monday that the Israeli army’s offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has caused the deaths of more than 35,500 people (mostly civilians), “It’s not genocide”.
The president has attacked the decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor’s Office to seek international arrest warrants against Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Biden insisted on this again during an event “can’t compare” to Israel with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), whose top leaders are also targeted in this petition.
The American president already described yesterday as “scandalous” the decision of the Public Prosecution Service and agreed with the position of Israel, its preferred partner.
It should be remembered that neither the United States nor Israel are among the signatories of the treaty Statute of Rome. This statute is the cornerstone of the ICC and states that this court cannot try any suspect ‘in absentia’, so it requires the person in question to be physically in the dock and personally answer for the crimes they attribute to him. 124 countries in the world have signed the Rome Statute, and they are responsible for the eventual detention in the event that the Court’s judges open the trial of Netanyahu, Gallant and the three Hamas leaders.
