In a Berlin home of AfD Bundestag member Petr Bystron, German police found serial numbers of several gold bars, cash in envelopes and bank statements from the Czech Republic and Liechtenstein.
Bystron, who is under investigation on initial suspicion of bribery and money laundering, is said to have confirmed the investigators’ findings to the “Welt” newspaper. According to this, most of the valuables belong to his mother.
In second place on the AfD list for the EU elections
The German news agency dpa asked Bystron for a written statement on Monday evening. However, this request remained unanswered on Tuesday morning. Bystron is in second place on the AfD’s list for the European elections.
The Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office, which did not want to comment on the ‘Welt’ report, is investigating Bystron and has therefore already searched several buildings in the past week, including the parliamentary office.
A Czech newspaper reported that Bystron may have received money from the pro-Russian internet platform ‘Voice of Europe’ (VoE). However, the member of the Bundestag constituency Munich North denies this.
Serial numbers of gold bars discovered
According to “Welt”, during a search of Bystron’s home in the Wannsee district of Berlin, serial numbers of gold bars weighing 500 grams and one kilo were discovered. “I keep the documents about my mother’s physical gold and accounts because I was appointed by the court as her guardian,” Bystron told “Welt.”
“My mother ran a dental clinic in Switzerland for many years, acquired everything legally and I keep the evidence. This also includes the old extracts from the Liechtenstein account, although it has been closed for a long time.”
Bystron allocates itself only to the account in the Czech Republic, extracts from which have also been found: “The account transactions on my Czech account are all completely transparent, as they relate to rental income and costs from real estate in the Czech Republic, which have been going on for more than twenty years owned by me and my wife.”
