Tragic accident in Mexico: The stage collapsed during a campaign event for presidential candidate Jorge Máynez. At least four people were killed.
The accident happened on Wednesday evening (local time) in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo León. As the local newspaper ‘Reforma’ reported, several people were also injured.
Gust of wind as trigger
Civic Movement presidential candidate Jorge Alvarez Maynez said on social media that a gust of wind caused the stage of the event in the city of San Pedro Garza Garcia to collapse.
Alvarez said he was doing well. He was taken to a local hospital. Members of his team were injured and he was on his way back to the accident scene.
In a video posted on social media Wednesday evening, Nuevo León Governor Samuel Garcia urged residents to stay indoors amid heavy thunderstorms in the region.
He told reporters that five people were dead and about 50 were injured.
