After a stabbing with two seriously injured people on Reumannplatz in Vienna-Favoriten, the Public Prosecution Service has now charged a 22-year-old and his 45-year-old father with attempted double murder. The complaint filed with the regional court is already legally binding, court spokeswoman Christina Salzborn confirmed.

The two suspects are native Chechens, the victims, aged 18 and 21, are from Syria.

The incident took place on the evening of March 1, 2024, after the first attacks took place a few hours earlier between the 22-year-old Chechen and one of the two Syrians. According to the prosecutor, the young Chechen man pulled out a pocket knife with a blade length of eleven centimeters and attacked his opponent with it, while his father used a knife that was also drawn to keep the other Syrians at a distance and prevent them from coming. to help their friend. The 22-year-old stabbed his opponent in the chest. Then father and son tried to flee the scene.

However, bystanders prevented emergency services from providing first aid. The police were also disrupted in their official duties and in enforcing the arrests of the two suspects.

The Public Prosecution Service is certain that the 22-year-old was stabbed with the intention to kill in both cases. His father was accused of contributing to the crime. It is not yet clear when the two Chechens will be tried. A specific date for the trial has yet to be set, court spokeswoman Salzborn said.
