After the collapse of a beach club in Mallorca, the first details about the victims have now become known. A young man was struck by the debris as he met a friend for coffee after the gym. He was fatally injured. Another fatality was an employee of the restaurant.
The other two fatalities are also women, reports the Spanish platform ‘El Pais’. According to the emergency services, seven of the sixteen injured people are in a very serious condition.
Demolished down to the basement
The accident happened right on the beach, just a few streets away from the cult bars Megapark and Bierkönig. The Medusa Beach Club building collapsed around 8:30 p.m. The first floor collapsed down to the basement, various media reported based on eyewitnesses.
There are still a large number of rescue workers on site and the area has been cordoned off over a large area. However, shortly after midnight it was said that there were probably no more victims in the building.
Restaurant fully occupied
At the time of the collapse, the restaurant, which also partly functioned as a cocktail bar with live music, was full. Psychologists are still caring for victims and witnesses of the tragedy. Many relatives also arrived at the scene out of concern for their relatives.
Raul Pursnami, owner of a fashion store next to the affected building, explains that a very loud noise was heard when it collapsed. “Just as I was leaving my store, everything collapsed. It’s a shame, in theory an inspection should take place every year. I have no words, they were my neighbors,” he complained. Pursnami told El Pais that everything happened very quickly while people were eating and others were dancing.
