Dramatic scenes during a check in the weapons ban zone at the Vienna-Favoriten hotspot on Friday evening. A police officer was attacked with a knife. The stab protection vest saved his life.
Stabbings in the crime hotspot Favoriten have been making headlines for weeks. Only on Friday did the Vienna public prosecutor’s office file charges of attempted double murder against a Chechen (22) and his 45-year-old father. The duo was involved in a bloody battle with two seriously injured Syrians.
Weapons ban zone since March 30
After several incidents, a major weapons ban will apply at Reumannplatz/Keplerplatz from the beginning of March. Since then, ‘Action Sharp’ has been in force and the ‘Krone’ has supported several important campaigns.

Dramatic scenes on Friday evening
Dramatic scenes occurred during a closer inspection of the emergency department on Friday evening around 7:30 p.m. An apparently drunk migrant suddenly threw glass bottles at the officers during the official act.
The attacker could only be subdued with a Taser
Then the situation completely escalated: 41-year-old suspect Mohammed Ismail R., who was also wanted by German justice, suddenly pulled out a knife and attacked one of the uniformed men! Only the stab protection vest saved the inspector’s life during the knife attack; he suffered only minor abrasions.
The rampaging knife attacker could only be subdued and arrested with a Taser stun gun. The investigation into the attack was still ongoing that night.
