Arson clarified: 18-year-old set fire to cellar himself

Date:

The 18-year-old from Bad Ischl, who claimed to have discovered a fire in the cellar early on Saturday and had his mother call the emergency services, admitted during the police interrogation that he had started the fire himself. The fire spread very quickly, but nothing happened to the twenty tenants.

After a suspicious cellar fire early Saturday morning in Bad Ischl, the cause of the fire has now been clarified: the 18-year-old, who claimed to have noticed the fire around 5:30 p.m. in a publicly accessible basement room of the apartment complex. When he got home in the morning, he confessed during interrogation that he had discovered a total of four fire sources that he had built himself. He then woke his mother, who eventually called emergency services.

Great danger to local residents
A bicycle tire, wooden pallets and two foam mattresses caught fire in the basement of the house. The fire spread quickly and would have caused devastating damage if the fire brigade had not acted so quickly. The smoke even reached the top floor and all twenty apartments had to be evacuated. However, no one was injured, except the 18-year-old from Bad Ischl, who has now been exposed as an arsonist. He had to go to the hospital due to smoke inhalation.
