Collision with Bim – 17 injured in Graz: bus driver still in training

Date:

Seventeen people were injured in a collision between a tram and a public bus in Graz around 7 a.m. on Monday, police said on Monday evening. The accident happened during a bus driver’s training run.

The accident occurred when the 40-year-old bus driver was driving on the Rottalgasse towards St. Leonhard (line 41) as part of his training and was accompanied by an instructor, and he accidentally crossed the intersection with Theodor-Körner-Straße straight ahead .

Tram collided with bus
When the driver pushed the bus back to Wilhelm-Raabe-Gasse to turn right in the correct direction of travel, a collision occurred with the oncoming tram (line 3/Andritz). This caused the BIM to collide with the right front of the bus.

14 passengers, driver and instructor were injured
Both the two public transport drivers and the instructor were slightly injured and received outpatient treatment at UKH Graz. 14 passengers on the bus, including eight children, were also slightly injured.

While a ten-year-old boy and a thirteen-year-old girl had to be admitted to the LKH Graz, five injured people were treated on an outpatient basis in hospitals. Seven other people sought medical help only from the Red Cross. This was deployed with four vehicles and an emergency medical team.

A replacement rail service was set up between Jakominiplatz and Andritz for tram lines 3 and 5. Bus lines 41 and 62 had to be diverted.
