Terrible accident on Sunday evening in the Tyrolean Stubai Valley: two women and a boy (9) were riding a quad bike into the valley in Mieders on a road when the vehicle’s brakes suddenly failed. After a wild ride over steep terrain and a clearing in the forest, the quad crashed into trees.
The accident happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. The quad was driven by a 28-year-old local woman; Another Austrian woman (37) and her nine-year-old son were also on board.
Quad became faster and faster
On the way from a mountain restaurant towards the valley, the foot brake before the last bend suddenly had no effect. “The vehicle therefore became increasingly faster and started to sway back and forth,” police said.
The ATV eventually went over the right edge of the trail, went through a sloping clearing in the forest, then rejoined the forest road and eventually crashed into a stand of trees.
“The force of the impact caused the quad bike to spin on its own axis and the driver and child were thrown from the vehicle. “They remained injured next to the vehicle, which had come to a stop on its wheels,” investigators continued.
The driver was taken to the shock room
After initial treatment, the seriously injured 28-year-old driver was flown to the clinic in Innsbruck with the emergency medical helicopter “C1” and taken to the shock room. Mother and son were slightly injured. They were taken by ambulance to Hall Hospital in Tyrol.
The quad was seized on behalf of the Innsbruck Public Prosecutor’s Office for a technical inspection of the brakes.
