During the trial at the Feldkirch Regional Court, the suspect did not want to remember anything. She has a lot on her plate.
The former nurse is led into the interrogation room by prison guards in handcuffs. The 35-year-old does not want to respond to the allegations made by the Public Prosecution Service. “I can’t remember,” she says. And that’s what it’s all about. On April 11, a wild peeping tom alerted police around 1:30 a.m. and reported a scary encounter with a woman on someone else’s property. She was wrapped in a woolen blanket and stared at him as he relieved himself. The scary woman is said to have had a Great Dane with her.
When officers arrived shortly afterwards and asked the woman to put the dog on a leash, the situation escalated. “Do you want a punch in the mouth now or later?”, the 35-year-old responds and then brushes off an officer. A scuffle ensues and both shoot balls past an embankment and a two-meter-high wall.
Hair cut with kitchen knife
A few days later the second incident. This time in her ex-partner’s apartment in Weiler. When the 45-year-old comes home from work in the evening, he cannot believe his eyes. The woman had not just cut her hair with a kitchen knife and spread it everywhere. “My entire apartment was destroyed. It was just chaos. When I then told her to pack her things and leave, she tried to hit me with a stick.” The man alerted the police and fled the apartment.
“A bad performance”
When officers arrived, the 35-year-old was sitting on the couch armed with a tomahawk. Shortly afterwards she hurls the hatchet at the officers with full force. The weapon misses and lands in a tarp. Fortunately, the second attempt to meet the officers also failed. The handcuffs click. Two psychiatrists and a psychologist then examined the woman. Common sense is proven. But during the trial the suspect is not only apathetic. She also suddenly suffers massive memory loss.
After a brief deliberation by the jury, Judge Verena Wackerle found her legally guilty of attempted grievous bodily harm, resisting state authority and damage to property. Twenty months in prison, she awarded her ex-boyfriend compensation of 800 euros. “We don’t believe you, your amnesia. They have never had any problems with it and suddenly don’t know anything anymore. The court finds you responsible for a show, and a very bad one at that.’
