The e-bike tour of two German couples in Lech did not go according to plan at all. The holidaymakers had apparently underestimated the still winter conditions on the Arlberg. Fortunately, it all turned out well for them in the end.
In sunshine and temperatures around 20 degrees, two couples from Germany left for an e-bike tour in Lech on Tuesday. First they took the paved road towards Spullersee, ignoring the fact that it is not yet accessible to public transport.
Fearlessly followed the outdoor app
When they arrived at the Spullersee, the quartet, aged 61 to 66, began the climb to the Stierjochsattel. Although they had to dismount several times to push their bikes through the snow fields, they fearlessly followed the route shown to them by an outdoor app.
After passing the Stierlochjoch, they again attempted to cross a steep snow field – then they wanted to descend towards the Zug district of Lech. But it didn’t get that far: due to the darkness that had already fallen and increasing exhaustion, they were eventually forced to make an emergency call around 11:20 p.m.
A team from the Lech mountain rescue service then went out to join the group. In the end, everything turned out fine: the four Germans were rescued and brought to the valley around 2 a.m., completely exhausted but unharmed.
