After his owner was handcuffed in a Viennese hotel on suspicion of counterfeit money, the wild cat is further treated at the TierQuartier. But “Archibald” is no longer “Archi-Blad”…
The Russian-Ukrainian dual national is still behind bars on suspicion of counterfeit money (up to ten years in prison). As reported, during the raid by the Federal Criminal Police, a so-called Caracat was discovered in the suspect’s hotel room at Wieden.
This is a cross between a caracal, a lynx-like wildcat and a domestic cat. Keeping these animals is prohibited for private individuals in Austria – and they certainly do not belong in hotel rooms, as evidenced by the condition of “Archibald” when his master was arrested.
The animal weighed no less than 20 kilograms at the time, and the name ‘Garfield’ would have suited him better. Vets at Schönbrunn Zoo needed three tranquilizer darts to get rid of the aggressive wild cat.
Several weeks have passed since then. And “Archibald” has already slimmed down considerably under the care of TierQuartier. “He can now move in a species-specific manner again,” operations manager Thomas Benda told “Krone”. In two weeks he will be moved to an animal-friendly home – in consultation with the veterinary practice – but the exact location remains secret…
