“He Confessed” – Jehovah Bomber: Steirer wanted to kill his ex-wife

Date:

The bomber that scared Jehovah’s Witnesses in Styria has been caught! It concerns a 55-year-old Styrian who was a Jehovah’s Witness for a long time and wanted to kill his ex-wife after a long dispute over child support.

It was a long-standing mystery: who targeted Jehovah’s Witnesses in Styria? Now we know the answer: “Today at 11:30 a.m. a 55-year-old man from Styria was arrested at his workplace, he admitted,” said lead investigator Rupert Meixner at a press conference convened by Styrian police on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Mann was a Jehovah’s Witness for a long time
What do we know about the perpetrator so far? The man is 55 years old, an IT technician and from the Graz region. He was a Jehovah’s Witness himself from 1991 to 2011, was married to a woman from the religious community and has two children with her. But after the divorce, he was expelled from Jehovah’s Witnesses – a child support dispute that lasted for years. Last year he clearly made the decision to kill her.

After several bomb attacks, which fortunately caused no casualties, investigators tracked down the man. He was arrested today: “A search is currently underway at his house south of Graz,” Meixner said. The 55-year-old confessed after being arrested by police, but confirmed that he did not want to harm Jehovah’s Witnesses, but ‘just’ his wife.

In addition, the car of the arrested Jehovah bomber was examined by special units on Wednesday for explosives. He stated that there was a bomb under the vehicle. As a result, Elisabethstrasse and Leonhardstrasse in the center of Graz were closed off and traffic came to a standstill. The closure on Elisabethstrasse was lifted again around 3 p.m. The bomb dismantlers withdrew and the cars could continue driving.

“Help” among Jehovah’s Witnesses
There is great relief among Jehovah’s Witnesses: “We are grateful that the authorities have arrested the perpetrator who, as the police have confirmed, has been carrying out attacks on our fellow believers in recent months,” said Markus Kakavis, spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses in Austria: “ This news provides some relief and reassurance to all families and community members of our religious community. During this period we especially appreciated the protective measures and support from the police, who took the threat very seriously.”
