A person became trapped in an aircraft turbine at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Wednesday and died. The incident is still under investigation, says airline KLM. At the time of the accident the aircraft was being prepared for departure to Billund, Denmark.
The person, about whom no further information was provided, was sucked into the running engine. The airport team confirmed the Dutch media reports and spoke of a ‘terrible incident’. The passengers and staff of the affected aircraft were removed from the aircraft and treated in the terminal.

Employees on the first day?
What led to the accident was initially unknown on Wednesday evening. An employee who was on the plane reportedly reported that the person “jumped” into the engine. He noticed “hellish noise” and smoke in the plane.
According to ‘Bild’ it is assumed that it concerned an employee who had his first day at Schiphol and wanted to pick up an object. He could have accidentally gotten too close to the turbine.
