Dramatic scenes took place in the Pillersee of St. Ulrich am Tirol (Kitzbühel district) on Wednesday afternoon: the car of a married couple (62 and 74 years old) crashed into a stream bed and fell on its side. The woman and her passenger were unable to free themselves.
The car drove on Pillerseestraße towards Waidring on Wednesday. Behind the wheel was a 62-year-old Austrian woman, with her 74-year-old husband next to her. For unknown reasons, the driver drove the car off the right side of the road around 12 noon. The car then fell about three meters into the stream bed of the Grieselbach, where it came to rest on the passenger side.
Lifted from the car by helicopter
According to police, the woman and man suffered only minor injuries in the crash, but were trapped in the car. While rescuers were able to free the 62-year-old without assistance, her husband had to be rescued from the car using a rope by the rescue helicopter “C4”.
Both were responsive and taken to the district hospital in St. Johann for medical care.
