Financial police and immigration police carried out a major operation on a major construction site in the center of Innsbruck on Wednesday. Several employees were exposed as being in the country illegally. In addition, numerous violations were found, including under the Anti-Wage and Social Dumping Act.
Workers at the major construction site in Innsbruck must have been surprised when officers from the Financial and Federal Police and the Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum suddenly arrived on Wednesday to carry out a large-scale inspection. “This was aimed at identifying foreign and financial police crimes,” the researchers said.
The police investigated 113 employees
A total of 113 people working on the construction site were checked by the police. “Five illegally staying employees were identified. A total of five reports were filed under the Aliens Police Act and two reports under the Registration Act,” according to the administrative report.
Aimed at foreign subcontractors
The financial officials also had a lot to do. A total of 22 companies were checked and 99 employees were checked. “The focus of the financial police was mainly on foreign subcontractors.”
Five violations were identified under the Foreign Employment Act. In addition, no fewer than thirty violations of the Wage and Social Dumping Act were found at five foreign subcontractors.
In total, the financial police will impose fines of around 40,000 euros, the researchers conclude.
