A terrible shock – then tears of relief flowed: in front of a mountain farm near Söll in the Tyrolean lowlands, a pram and a little girl “made themselves independent” and ran through the valley with increasing speed. Shortly before a road the toddler was thrown out, the soft forest floor.
Anyone who believes in guardian angels or miracles in view of this incident will likely be reluctant to argue with it: It was late Wednesday afternoon when the mother and grandmother of the few-month-old girl were busy gardening on the farm.
“The pram was in a place where it is often parked. Mom is convinced that she has applied the brakes,” says Nina Stepan, commander of the Söll police station. Suddenly the pram started moving slowly, straight in the direction of the steep mountain meadow!

Measurements later showed that the vehicle fell a total of 143 meters. Probably the rescue: At the beginning of a forest, the girl was thrown out – “into a clear area with lots of old leaves and undergrowth, that should lessen the impact of the fall,” Stepan says. Meanwhile, the pram’s shell had torn from the base. This fell over a stone settlement on the asphalt and remained demolished!
Young mother’s brother happened to drive by in a car
“Mom and grandma looked at the child in horror. The brother of the child’s mother then accidentally drove his car past the forest, saw the pram and set in motion the rescue chain,” said the policeman. When she arrived at the accident site, the mother knelt – barely reacting through the shock – over her child, who was flown with his mother by Heli 3 to the clinic in Innsbruck.
All tests there showed: no consequences of the accident, the girl had hardly any scratches. Also because there was no injury, the public prosecutor does not have to conduct further investigation.
